"Hardwood", which earned an Academy Award nomination in 2004, and “Tell Them Who You Are” will be screened for the March 8 installment of the Contemporary Documentary Series, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Foundation and the UCLA Film and Television Archive. Free and open to the public, the screening will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus.
“Hardwood” is the personal journey of its Canadian director, Hubert Davis, as he seeks to reconnect with his father, a former basketball player with the Harlem Globetrotters who, during the director’s childhood, was not only constantly on tour but also raising another family in Chicago. The film was produced by Erin Faith Young.
In “Tell Them Who You Are,” filmmaker Mark S. Wexler turns the camera on his cinematographer father, Haskell Wexler, in an effort to emerge from his shadow.
The James Bridges Theater is located in Westwood on the northeast corner of the UCLA campus, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Hilgard Avenue. Parking is available for $8 in Lot 3, adjacent to the theater. For more information, call 310-247-3600 or 310-206-FILM.
