It's the end of an era in many ways with The Walking Dead. After the main series ended with its eleventh season last year, fans are preparing for the first spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead, to also be wrapping up. The show will officially end at the conclusion of its upcoming eighth season, as AMC announced the show's cancelation last month.

Danay García, one of the show's major players who plays Luciana, opened up on Fear the Walking Dead getting axed. Taking to Instagram Live (via ComicBook.com), García said she wanted to clear the air on what happened with Fear the Walking Dead, noting that she gets asked that question a lot. As noted by the actress, the show had simply run its course after eight seasons with García feeling that it's just "time" for the story to be wrapped up.

"One of the funniest questions I get asked is, 'What happened to Fear the Walking Dead that it's ending?' Nothing happened. What happened is that we've been on the air for eight seasons, and we felt like it was a really fun run. Nothing really happened to Fear. It's just that we've been on the air for quite some time, and it's the time [to end]. I'm just so grateful for everyone that I've crossed paths with"

Fans of the show may have felt there was more potential in doing more with Fear the Walking Dead, perhaps especially when considering that the main series had 11 seasons. Be that as it may, eight seasons is still a fantastic run for a TV series these days, and there was never a guarantee the show would make it this far. The good news here is that everyone was aware heading in that Fear the Walking Dead would be ending, so this will allow the creative team to properly end the story rather than finishing off with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

The official description for season 8 of Fear the Walking Dead is as follows:

Morgan, Madison and the others they brought to the island are living under PADRE’s cynical rule. With our characters demoralized and dejected, the task of reigniting belief in a better world rests with the person Morgan and Madison set out to rescue in the first place — Morgan’s daughter, Mo.

The eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead is set to premiere on AMC on May 14.
