A spinoff film to Ferris Bueller's Day Off is in development from Paramount Pictures, according to reports from Deadline. The project is titled Sam and Victor's Day Off, following the same-day adventure of the valets who took the Ferrari for a joy ride in the original 1986 film. The movie comes from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, who produce Sam and Victor's Day Off.

Richard Edson and Larry 'Flash' Jenkins play the unnamed Valet attendants in the original film, who will now be the film's stars. Obviously, younger actors will be playing their roles to fit in with the movie's timeline, and unfortunately, Jenkins tragically passed away in 2019. The scenes the film references take place throughout Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Bueller borrows his best friend's father's vintage Ferrari, and while driving into Chicago, the group is forced to reluctantly leave it in a parking garage with two attendants. After Bueller's group exits the garage, the attendants are seen taking the Ferrari for a spin around town, returning the vehicle with no damage but a lot of extra miles on the odometer. This will be the basis for Sam and Victor's Day Off, as we follow the pair's adventures, similar to the original film it stems from.

Bill Posley is set to write the film, with previous work including Welcome to Flatch, Kenan, and The Neighborhood. He recently sold his first feature film, Bitch Ass, which won the SXSW Audience Award. The movie is a horror inspired by classic slashers like Candy Man.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a classic comedy that still receives plenty of references across various forms of media today. The film comes from John Hughes, the man behind several other iconic movies, including Sixteen Candles, Plains, Trains, & Automobiles, and The Breakfast Club. Unfortunately, the director passed away in 2019, which may hinder the spinoff without his guidance.

However, Sam and Victor's Day Off isn't a direct sequel or a reboot attempting to tell the same story. If done right, Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg will recreate the feel of the original film while simultaneously making something that can stand on its own as a unique project. Their work on Cobra Kai proves the trio is capable; however, only time will tell if they can recreate the same magic once again with Sam and Victor's Day Off.
