Will Fifty Shades Darker prove to be the biggest domestic release of all time? It will surely be a blockbuster at the box office when it opens this February. But if the Fifty Shades Darker trailer is any indication, it could knock Star Wars: The Force Awakens out of the top slot. This next installment in the Anastasia Steele saga has already broken one big Force Awakens record. The first trailer, which debuted earlier this week, has proven to be a hit with fans, and has been viewed a record number of times during its first day on the Internet.

This is no small feat. And there appears to be some serious pent-up tension between the audience and Mr. Grey, as the demand for his return is quite high. A source from Universal has confirmed today that the first trailer for Fifty Shades Darker, which is the second installment in E.L. James bestselling romance novel series, was viewed an astonishing 114 million times in the first 24 hours.

The old record, held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was lingering at the 112 million view mark for a first day trailer release. These numbers are taken from a number of digital platforms according to Deadline. These include Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. The Fifty Shades Darker trailer dropped at 8am on Tuesday. And in less than an hour, it already had 2.5 million views just on the movie's official Facebook page alone.

Romance-starved Americans are responsible for 39.4 million views in regards to breaking the first day record. The remaining 74.6 million views have filtered in from more than 30 international markets supporting a localized version of the trailer. The U.K. came in behind the U.S. with 18.9 million views, while Brazil racked up 12.4 million, followed by France with 9.8 million, Mexico with 6.8 million and Italy with 6 million. Here's the official synopsis for this hotly anticipated sequel.

"Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter based on the worldwide bestselling Fifty Shades phenomenon. Expanding upon events set in motion in 2015's blockbuster film that grossed more than $560 million globally, the new installment arrives for Valentine's Day and invites you to slip into something a shade darker. When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian's past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together."

Before the full trailer dropped on Tuesday, fans were treated to a special 20 second sneak peek on Monday, which certainly got everyone very hot and bothered. The movie will be in theaters February 10, just in time for the Valentine's Day holiday. The film co-stars returning actors Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini and Marcia Gay Harden. New to the franchise this time out are Hugh Dancy, Eric Johnson, Kim Basinger and Bella Heathcote. Niall Leonard wrote the Fifty Shades Darker script based on his wife's novel. Series newcomer James Foley directs. Here's the trailer in case you missed it the first time.
