Get ready to have smiles ruined forever thanks to the final trailer for the upcoming horror outing, Smile. Released courtesy of Paramount Pictures, who tease that "Smile brings the scares,” the final trailer offers our last look at what’s to come when Smile hits screens later this week. Check out the final trailer for Smile below.

“After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can't explain,” the official synopsis for Smile reads. “As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.”

Directed by Parker Finn in his feature film debut, and based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn't Slept, Smile stars Sosie Bacon (Narcos: Mexico, Mare of Easttown), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Kyle Gallner (Scream 2022), Caitlin Stasey (APB, Bridge and Tunnel), Robin Weigert (American Horror Story, Deadwood), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things), and Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar).

Smile has seemingly come out of nowhere and has already generated huge buzz thanks to its central mystery and its sublime use of a major jump scare in the trailer alone. And based on this final trailer it’s easy to see why Smile is so highly anticipated among horror fans.

The studio has kept the hype train chugging along thanks to some inventive marketing, with several actors in attendance at a number of Major League Baseball games. The studio reportedly purchased seats behind home plate, with the actors seen smiling maniacally into the camera for extended periods of time in a stunt that proved to be enjoyably creepy.

Smile had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 22, 2022, followed by screenings at Beyond Fest on September 27, and has been met with positive reviews from critics. Currently sitting at an impressive 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Rocco T. Thompson of Slant Magazine saying, “Everything Smile is doing is familiar enough at this point to be considered old-fangled, but the striking precision of its craft sloughs away any sensations of déjà vu.”

IndieWire’s Marisa Mirabal meanwhile praised Smile for framing real-life issues within the trappings of the horror genre saying, “Smile navigates unhealed trauma through a supernatural lens and mischievous juxtaposition, despite feeling like a shadow of other stories.” While Alan Cerny of VitalThrills.com found Smile to be surprisingly thought-provoking; “Smile brings the scares, the meaning, and the context, and I found myself thinking about it more than I thought on the ride home. And really, that’s all it takes.”

Finally, Nathaniel Muir of AIPT commended Smile for living up to its creepy trailer saying, “Despite its title, it is the sound design that does the heavy lifting. Clever writing leads to some twists that will scare the hell out of audiences. Lives up to its creep trailer.”

Smile is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 30, 2022, by Paramount Pictures.
