Since the arrival of Disney+, the House of Mouse has been on a mission to reinvigorate its extensive back catalog of classic animations and Pixar properties with new sequels and TV series, and it looks like one of those will be Finding Nemo. Having already had a cinematically released sequel, Finding Dory, a new rumor has suggested that Pixar Animation Studios is currently developing a TV show based on the adventures of clownfish Nemo and his aquatic family and friends. While there are no details at all yet on what the show's content would be if it does go ahead, there would be an expectation that at least some of the original cast members would be returning to voice their characters.

Finding Nemo was initially released in 2003 and became one of Pixar's early big hit movies. Telling the story of Marlin and his quest to find his son, Nemo, after divers capture the youngster, the film played on the usual family-orientated fare that has provided many successful movies for Pixar and Disney over the years. Featuring the voice talents of Albert Brooks, Alexander Gould, Willem Dafoe, and Ellen DeGeneres, amongst others, the movie made just short of $1 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing G-rated movie until it was overtaken by Toy Story 3 and is still the best-selling DVD of all time.

It would therefore make sense that along with their various Toy Story shorts, Monsters At Work series, and the upcoming Cars spin-off, Disney would want to add something new to the Finding Nemo franchise. The DisInsider Show, which has provided several hot tips on what is coming out of Disney in the future, explained:

“So this is straight out of Pixar… let’s just say over the next couple years you are going to still get original content after ‘Lightyear’… thanks to things like ‘Cars On The Road’ and ‘Dug Days’, Pixar is diving into the world of series… they are getting to animate and develop alongside Andrew Stanton, a ‘Finding Nemo’ series for Disney+.”

Disney, Marvel & Pixar Release Dates Announced Through 2020

Although Disney is certainly not slowing down in their cinematic output, with a massive slate of new Marvel, live-action, classic animation and Pixar movies set to be released in the next few years, the arrival of Disney+ has created a massive content gap to be filled in order to keep up with other platforms like Netflix and HBO Max. While there are several original movies and TV shows heading to the platform, along with new Star Wars and Marvel content, Disney + has given Disney an incentive to continue to plow into their past successes to bring their older franchises to new audiences.

With a big nostalgic surge for anything between twenty and thirty years old currently driving a lot of the new films and shows being released, it is not surprising to see Disney drawing out new stories from some of their best-loved movies of the last twenty years. What is encouraging about the content being driven to Disney+ is that rather than seeing movies being remade, we are seeing a wave of new stories being told with familiar characters that expand on some old favorites in ways that a cinematic film might not be able to pull off.
