Grace Hanadarko (Holly Hunter) is a hard-drinking, fast-talking, hard-living tough cop in Oklahoma City. She is haunted by the death of her sister in the Oklahoma City bombing and spends a lot of time with her nephew. However Grace is living on the edge. Her life is spiraling out of control until she gets a second chance when an angel named Earl (Leon Rippy) intervenes. Well, he doesn't exactly intervene. He just delivers a message that she needs to clean up her act and live responsibly. No more drunken escapades and no more hard living. But Grace is reluctant to change, and even more reluctant to believe Earl is really an angel.

Earl is not the kind of angel viewers are used to seeing on television. He is the opposite of Michael Landon's character in Highway to Heaven. Earl is a tobacco-chewing tough-looking guy. But he knows what it takes to get into heaven and he - and his boss - are giving Grace one last chance to turn her life around.

Additional cast members in this hour-long drama series include Laura San Giacomo, Dylan Minnette, Kenneth Johnson, Bailey Chase, Bokeem Woodbine, Gregory Cruz, and Lorraine Toussaint.

The show is a combination of Highway to Heaven and Joan of Arcadia, mixed with a typical police drama. It has some spirit, no pun intended, but it also has a lot of grit. It premiers on TNT July 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT following the hit series The Closer.
