Ben Foster has signed on to star alongside Chris Pine, Casey Affleck and Holliday Grainger in Disney's The Finest Hours.

The plot is based on the true story of a 1952 Coast Guard rescue mission, following one of the worst storms ever to hit the East Coast, which literally ripped an oil tanker in half. Facing sub-zero temperatures and waves as high as 70 feet, four Coast Guard members set off in a lifeboat to rescue over 30 crew members who were stranded in the sinking vessel. The mission is still considered to be the greatest 'small boat rescue" in Coast Guard history. No details were given for Ben Foster's character.

Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) is directing from a script by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter), which was adapted from the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. Production is currently under way.

Ben Foster most recently starred in Kill Your Darlings and Lone Survivor, and he will next be seen in the Untitled Lance Armstrong Biopic where he portrays the disgraced cyclist.
