Eric Bana has joined the growing cast of Disney's true story adaptation The Finest Hours alongside Chris Pine.

The drama is based on the true story of an immense 1952 Coast Guard rescue mission after one of the worst storms ever to hit the East Coast split two oil tankers in half. Eric Bana is playing Daniel Cluff, a Coast Guard warrant officer who orders Bernie (Chris Pine) to embark on this deadly mission, despite the objections of his wife. Four Coast Guard members set off in a lifeboat to rescue over 30 crew members who were stranded on the vessel as it began to sink, facing 70-foot waves and below-freezing temperatures along the way.

Casey Affleck, Graham McTavish, Josh Stewart, Ben Foster and Holliday Grainger are also confirmed to star in this thriller. Craig Gillespie is directing from a screenplay by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter), which was adapted from the book of the same name by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. Shooting is already under way.

Eric Bana most recently starred in Lone Survivor and this summer's thriller Deliver Us from Evil.
