The long-gestating adaptation Fire is moving forward with screenwriter Jesse Wigutow signing on to provide the screenplay.

The project has been in development at Universal Pictures since January 2010, when Zac Efron signed on to star. The story, based on Brian Bendis' graphic novel, follows a college student who gets recruited by the CIA, only to discover that this program trains expendable spies. Brian Bendis was originally set to write the script after selling his graphic novel to Universal at Sundance in 2010.

Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing through their Original Film company, along with Circle of Confusion's David Engel. Zac Efron and Jason Barrett will serve as executive producers. No production schedule was given.

Jesse Wigutow's writing credits include It Runs in the Family, Peter and the Starcatchers, Irreparable Harm and the upcoming Tron 3, The Crow and The Osterman Weekend.
