Prime Video’s upcoming A League of Their Own reboot has yet to receive a release date on the streaming platform, but a newly released image has given a first look at the Rockford Peaches in their team kit. While the series is not the first time the 1992 baseball movie has been brought to the small screen, there is a lot of expectation that this version may last longer than its ill-fated predecessor, which was released almost immediately after the film but didn’t even manage to air its final episode, instead being canceled and removed from schedules after just five episodes.

A League of Their Own originally contained an all-star cast of Tom Hanks, Madonna, Geena Davis and Lori Petty and told the story of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 1940s. The new adaptation is co-created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, who also stars in the series, with other cast members including Nick Offerman, Lil Frex, Kate Berlant, D’Arcy Carden and Molly Ephraim. While many recent reboots have turned into sequels or have some connection to their previous iterations, the new A League of Their Own will completely stand alone and is also expanding its story to really look into LGBTQ+ and race issues of the time in its plot.

The new images from A League of Their Own were shared by Entertainment Weekly, and show the new cast in some of the first images released from the upcoming show. You can see the images below.

Despite being a comedy, A League of Their Own will take on some difficult topics during the course of the series, and as Will Graham told Entertainment Weekly, the biggest challenge was making sure the comedy still shone through despite some of the heavy issues being discussed in the movie. He said:

"Every single one of the women that we've spoken to and the stories that we've read, they knew that they were living at one of the most turbulent times in history, where things were changing radically around them — just like we are now. All of the rules were shifting, and somehow in the midst of that change, they managed to find themselves and find a clear idea of who they were. And they got to play ball, which is the thing they all talk about wanting to do more than anything. They loved the sound of the bat, the sound of the cleats. For me, and I think for Abbi too, it's been life-changing to be able to be immersed in those stories. We just want to share that same feeling with everybody else."

The new series has still not been given an exact release date, but is expected to premiere on Prime Video sometime over the summer. With that in mind, it will probably not be too long before a trailer for the series is released to give a real first look at what we can expect when the series arrives.
