Just one day after production got under way in San Francisco, we have the first official photo of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang in Ant-Man. Based on the Marvel comics, Ant-Man centers on Scott Lang and his mentor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who must protect Pym's revolutionary Ant-Man suit against dangerous threats, while pulling off a massive heist to save the world. Check out the photo, then read on for more details from Paul Rudd.
Best known for comedies such as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Ant-Man marks Paul Rudd's first foray into the superhero genre, playing ex-thief Scott Lang. Scott finds a mentor in Michael Douglas, who invented the Ant-Man suit that allows a person to shrink to the size of an insect, but also increase his or her strength.
When asked about what drew him to this superhero adventure, Paul Rudd had this to say.
"The way technology has advanced just in the last few years, picturing this world, what they can do with this kind of story line and character, I thought this could be something that could be very strange and hasn't been seen before. I was really excited about being a part of something like that."
We also reported yesterday that, along with Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket and Michael Pena, a number of actors have joined the cast including Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Neil Hamburger (aka Gregg Turkington) and T.I., although their roles were not specified.
Production is currently under way in San Francisco, with shooting also scheduled to take place in Atlanta
