The story is adapted from John Pearson's book The Profession of Violence, which charts how the brothers built their criminal empire like nobody had ever seen before, before their arrest in 1969 that lead to them being sentenced to prison for life.
Brian Helgeland wrote the adapted screenplay and is directing Legend, which is currently in production. The supporting cast includes Emily Browning, Jd Roth-round, Christopher Eccleston, David Thewlis, Taron Egerton, Chazz Palminteri and Tara Fitzgerald.
Cross Creek Pictures has the North American distribution rights, with Universal releasing the film domestically through their deal with the studio. Legend is expected to be released in late 2015, although a specific release date has not been announced yet.
