The star-studded cast of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints can rest easy now; the film was recently picked up by First Look Studios.
The mob film, directed by and based on the life of Dito Montiel, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chazz Palminteri, Dianne Wiest, Shia LaBeouf, and Rosario Dawson. It follows Dito from a boy (LeBeouf) to becoming a man (Downey Jr., who is also a co-producer) along the tough streets of New York, encountering death, drugs, and eventually life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. came aboard through a mutual friend he shared with Montiel. Taking an interest in Montiel's memoirs about growing up in a rough Queens, N.Y., neighborhood, Downey brought on producer Trudie Styler and eventually her husband, Sting, as an executive producer.
At this years Sundance Film Festival, the film recieved two awards - one for the dramatic director award for first-timer, Montiel, and a special dramatic jury prize for best ensemble performance.
A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints has a September 2006 release date.
