Ewan McGregor wields his blue lightsaber once again in the first images from the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Released by EW, this first look at the highly anticipated series will have fans eager to return to a galaxy far, far away, as McGregor slips effortlessly back into the robes of the beloved Jedi Master.

The images give us our first look at several of the cast alongside McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, including Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, a moisture farmer on Tatooine and the uncle of Luke Skywalker; and Moses Ingram as the force-sensitive Inquisitor Reva, who hunts any remaining Jedi across the galaxy on behalf of the Empire.

These first look images give us a major glimpse at Ewan McGregor in the title role, with the actor sporting a beard and hooded robe as he gradually transitions into the Alec Guinness version of the character from the original Star Wars trilogy. Aside from showing Obi-Wan on his latest adventure, one image, in particular, stands out. Showing Obi-Wan sitting in a cave, could this be where the exiled Jedi is visited by Force Ghosts from his past?

Obi-Wan Kenobi will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. While he is absent from these images, it has been promised that the pair of friends-turned-enemies will clash lightsabers again in Obi-Wan Kenobi in what has been described as the “rematch of the century.”

Directed by The Mandalorian’s Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi will pick up with Obi-Wan around ten years after the events of 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi Master is now watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, with the series taking the beloved Star Wars character on an adventure that is expected to lead into Star Wars: A New Hope. Recent rumors have claimed that the series will begin with the character living quietly as “Ben Kenobi,” before being tracked down by a young Jedi named Nari, who decides to find the Jedi Master after being inspired by a message sent by Obi-Wan to his fellow Jedi Knights during the chaos caused by the infamous Order 66.

Further rumors have claimed that Obi-Wan and Owen Lars will not be the only familiar faces to return after all these years in Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn also said to feature in some capacity. "Well that's my question about Qui-Gon. I know Qui-Gon's in it, but I don't know if he's a voice-over or if he's a physical ghost,” Making Star Wars' Jason Ward revealed. “That was a really big scoop, by the way, I just dropped. I know he's in it now. Like I know. I've been told [gives 'thumbs up' sign]."

Starring Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Rory Ross, Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2022, on Disney+ and will consist of six episodes.
