In Season 1 of The CW's The Flash, fans were introduced to two members of the Snart family, Leonard, a.k.a. Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and his sister Lisa, a.k.a. Golden Glider (Peyton List). Today, we have word from The Hollywood Reporter that Michael Ironside has come aboard to play their father, Lewis Snart in The Flash Season 2. The actor will guest star in the third episode of Season 2, entitled "Family of Rogues", alongside Wentworth Miller and Peyton List.

Lewis Snart is described as a "cold-blooded, ruthless career criminal," who is just released from prison and returns to Central City to put a plan together that will put his children's lives in danger. The Lewis Snart character does have roots in the DC Comics, but very little is known about him, except that he is so abusive to Leonard when he was a boy, that the child spends most of his time with his grandfather, an ice cream truck vendor. As of now, it seems that Michael Ironside will only be appearing in one episode of The Flash Season 2, but, since Captain Cold is also confirmed to star in CW Network's DC's Legends of Tomorrow as well, it's possible that the patriarch character could cross over to that show.

Michael Ironside will be joined by a number of new additions for Season 2, including Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick, the original Flash, and Shantel VanSanten as Patty Spivot, a new addition to the Central City Police Department who teams up with Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). She is said to be obsessed with meta-humans and has a crush on Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), unaware that he is actually The Flash. Grant Gustin revealed at Comic-Con last week that Barry will get new "lightning" powers in the upcoming season.

Other new developments for Season 2 include Barry getting a new mentor, now that his former mentor Harrison Wells/Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) has been transported to another dimension. Grant Gustin confirmed that Barry will be working with this mentor in the second episode of the new sesaon. The show's producers confirmed that they will be exploring the show's "multi-verse" in Season 2, with Gorilla Grodd set to return and Zoom being set up as the primary villain throughout this next run of episodes.

Michael Ironside, who has over 230 film and TV credits to his name, will next be seen in Turbo Kid, set for release on August 28, and Desecrated, arriving later this year. On the small screen, he most recently had a recurring arc on CBS' Vegas and voiced Ultra Magnus on Transformers: Prime. Do you think Michael Ironside is the perfect fit to play Lewis Snart?
