Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis has been confirmed to direct the Paramount Pictures drama Flight, his first live-action project since Cast Away in 2000.

We first reported on Flight back in April, although the project was delayed since neither the studio nor director were sure if they wanted to move forward. Now Flight will be Robert Zemeckis' next movie, with Denzel Washington finalizing his deal to star.

John Gatins wrote the screenplay, which focuses on a pilot with drug and alcohol issues, who manages to save the passengers of his flight when the plane malfunctions. When the government investigates the crash, they find the pilot is actually to blame for the malfunctions.

Flight is looking to start production sometime this fall. We reported back in April that Robert Zemeckis was eyeing another live-action project entitled Replay for Warner Bros., although it seems that movie has been put on the back burner for now.
