Focus Features bought the rights to the stop-motion animated feature, Coraline from Laika Entertainment, the Oregon-based cartoon company owned by Nike co-founder Phil Knight.

Dakota Fanning has voiced the title character in the film based on the book by Neil Gaiman. Variety reports the story follows a young girl who walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life.

Henry Selick wrote the screenplay and will co-direct with Mike Cachuela (James and the Giant Peach, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Musical group, They Might Be Giants are writing songs for Coraline. A 2007 release date has been set.
