While he certainly didn't have a lot of screen time in The Force Awakens, Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow) proved to be a vital character in the overall story, and now we finally have more details about him. Marvel published their new comic Poe Dameron #25 today, which finally shed some new light on this character, and his importance leading up to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This comic finally reveals the first ever meeting between Lor San Tekka and Poe Dameron before their scene together in the movie.

Marvel's Poe Dameron comic book series, written by Charles Soule and drawn by Phil Noto, was first announced in January 2016, just after The Force Awakens hit theaters, with the first issue debuting on April 6, 2016. The story is set before the events of The Force Awakens, following Poe Dameron as he's hand-picked by General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) to go on a top secret mission that has Poe investigating "sites of historical importance to The Force." The pilot's primary mission is to track down Lor San Tekka, which the pilot finally does in this issue.

While fans didn't get to see much of Lor San Tekka in The Force Awakens, he's the one who handed over the last map piece that leads to Luke Skywalker's whereabouts on Ahch-to, and he also recognized Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as Ben Solo, Luke Skywalker's former student. In the first installment of this comic, Dameron's mission to find Tekka is laid out. He's described as an "explorer" who helped pass down Jedi knowledge to Luke Skywalker long ago. In more recent issues of the comic, Lor San Tekka was in the custody of the First Order, who at one point even left him floating in space, but he was eventually rescued and taken to the Resistance base on D'Qar, where he meets Leia. She tells him she's seeking her brother Luke Skywalker for his help in defeating the First Order.

Lor San Tekka revealed in that issue that he may have a theory as to Luke Skywalker's whereabouts, and it is also revealed that while he is an explorer and a longtime "fan" of the Jedi order and its work, he is not a Jedi himself and has no connection to the original trilogy of Star Wars movies. This new comic, Poe Dameron #25, features the first meeting between Lor San Tekka and Poe Dameron, who has been on his tail for months. While they only interact briefly, Tekka leaves stating that Leia gave him an important mission. They would meet again in that fateful hut on Jakku, in the opening scenes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

This comic may have some debating whether or not Lor San Tekka is actually Force sensitive, and while he may not be, he also states that he sensed the same "awakening" in The Force, leading up to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It remains to be seen if Lor San Tekka will be featured in any of the other comics, with this issue wrapping up Book VI: Legend Found. The next volume, Book VII: The Awakening, debuts on April 18, followed by the second issue on May 16 and the third on June 20. You can pick up this new comic yourself from the Marvel Digital Comics shop.
