A Swedish family's skiing trip to the French Alps changes their lives forever in the first trailer for Force Majeure. Johannes Kuhnke stars as Tomas, who makes a decision that will forever alter the way his wife (Lisa Loven Kongsli) and children see him, after an avalanche hits during a peaceful lunch.

Take a look at the first footage from writer-director Ruben Östlund's upcoming drama, which arrives in theaters October 24 from Magnolia Pictures. The film will also represent Sweden in the race for Best Foreign Language Picture at The Academy Awards.

The sun is shining and the slopes are spectacular but during a lunch at a mountainside restaurant an avalanche suddenly bears down on the happy diners. With people fleeing in all directions and his wife and children in state of panic, Tomas makes a decision that will shake his marriage to its core and leave him struggling to reclaim his role as family patriarch.
