Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer has signed on to star in Lava Bear's supernatural thriller The Forest. We first reported on the project back in March, when Focus Features picked up the project.

The story is set in Japan's Aokigahara Forest, a real location where many people go to end their own lives. Natalie Dormer plays Sarah, an American woman who journeys to Japan in search of her sister who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite warnings from the locals not to stray from the path, Sarah enters the forest, only to be confronted by the numerous evil spirits who haunt anyone that dares to enter.

Jason Zada is directing, with Nick Acosta and Sarah Cornwell rewriting the screenplay. David S. Goyer is producing alongside Lava Bear's David Linde and Phantom Four's Nellie Reed. No production schedule has been given, but Focus Features has handed out a January 8, 2016 release date.

Aside from playing Margaery Tyrell on HBO's Game of Thrones, Natalie Dormer will next be seen on the big screen as Cressida in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
