Namor the Sub-Mariner is making his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Tenoch Huerta will portray the villain, which most fans were happy to see. However, one former Marvel Comics artist wasn't so impressed with the live-action depiction of the character.Mike Deodato Jr. recently reacted to screenshots from the latest trailer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, voicing his disapproval of Huerta's embodiment of the character. Deodato knows Namor well, drawing the character across many issues for years with Marvel, even exploring Namor's relationship with Wakanda, the nature of the upcoming film. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Deodato claims Marvel "screwed up" with Tenoch Huerta, saying he looks out of shape for the role. His caption said, "Pencil lifting beats swimming anytime," comparing the artist's body to the actor portraying Namor. Luckily, The Direct captured Deodato's statement before it was removed from his Instagram, which included him saying, "You can tell somebody screwed things up when a character from a movie looks in worst shape than the 60 years old artist who drew him." The comparison image he posted can be found below.Related: Black Panther 2 Star Tenoch Huerta Breaks Silence on Bringing Namar to the MCU

We've seen countless heroes and villains arise in the MCU, and most of them have shared a similar stature through four phases of the connected universe. So fans may be wondering, is the physique of Huerta that important to his portrayal of Namor? Audiences will find out how the actor plays the character when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters later this year, on Nov. 11.

Fans who are avid comic readers will know Namor the Sub-Mariner has deep ties to Atlantis, and his costume design reflected that. He was known for wearing little clothing, which changed in later comic depictions. However, his usual go-to consisted of a black and blue bodysuit or scaled black pants with shoulder coverings. In the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, we got our first look at his character design from a costume standpoint, and the colors presented are different from comic iterations.

He wears tiny green shorts as he rises out of the sea in the trailer, and later we see him in a ceremonial outfit. Both choices reflect the mesoamerican heritage that was changed for Namor's MCU counterpart, an intentional choice by Marvel. The DCEU currently has Aquaman, an Atlantean superhero widely known for ruling the kingdom under the sea. Introducing a similar character into the MCU would confuse fans, who may have accused Marvel of ripping off DC. To avoid conflict, Namor is now the ruler of the underwater Aztec kingdom, Talocan, a drastic change that his costume design reflects.

The inclusion of yet another culture into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is great for audiences and exciting for fans who want to see a different take on the character. It seems like audiences, excluding Mike Deodato Jr., are excited for Tenoch Huerta's portrayal of Namor the Sub-Mariner.
