According to Variety, Fox 2000 has bought movie rights to Marley & Me, Philadelphia Inquirer columnist John Grogan's memoir of life with his yellow Labrador retriever.
Originally published in November by William Morrow, the book has already sold 500,000 copies and has been on the New York Times bestseller list, where it will move to No. 2 this weekend, for 14 weeks. Morrow has so far printed 870,000 copies, and the tome is set for translations into 10 languages.
The story covers Marley's 13-year life -- he died two years ago -- and is a collection of anecdotes about the dog wreaking havoc in Grogan's home. It's Grogan's first book.
