20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to the graphic novel Malignant Man, co-created by James Wan, who will develop and possibly direct the feature adaptation.

James Wan co-wrote the graphic novel with Michael Alan Nelson, with artwork from Piotr Kowalski, back in 2011. The story follows Alan Gates, a terminal cancer patient who discovers that his malignant tumor is actually a mysterious parasite. He is given a second lease on life with new supernatural abilities, as he must fight an evil army while unlocking secrets of his past.

The filmmaker will also produce Malignant Man with Stephen Christy and Ross Richie for the 20th Century Fox-based production company BOOM!, with Adam Yoelin set to executive produce. No production schedule was given.

James Wan is currently shooting Fast & Furious 7, and he is also attached to direct MacGyver and Castlevania as well.
