According to Variety, Fox and Sony TV are developing a new version of Heathers for TV.

The original film was directed by Michael Lehmann and penned by Daniel Waters. This new take will be written and executive produced by Mark Rizzo (Men in Trees) and Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City). Lakeshore Entertainment is also producing.

There is no word yet on how this movie will be updated but it is reported that the characters of Veronica Sawyer (played in the original film by Winona Ryder), J.D. (played by Christian Slater) and the "Heathers" themselves will be in it.

The original film focused on Veronica as she moves through a clique of mean girls -- who are all named Heather -- but she rebels when she meets J.D., the new guy at school. Shortly after, the Heathers begin to die at the hands of Veronica and J.D. They make the deaths seem like suicides and Veronica writes down everything in her diary.

"We had the title, and talked about doing a film remake at times," stated Lakeshore president Gary Lucchesi. "But doing it for TV seemed like a fresh and original idea."
