Fox has pulled the plug on their Egyptian drama Hieroglyph, which was given a 13-episode series order last October. The studio only filmed the pilot episode of the series, before they decided that Egyptian drama wasn't meeting the level of creatively originally expected.

The series was set in the world of ancient Egypt and follows a notorious thief that is plucked from prison to serve the Pharaoh, forcing him to navigate palace intrigue, seductive concubines, criminal underbellies and divine sorcerers, as he races to stop the downfall of one of history's greatest civilizations.

Fringe director Miguel Sapochnik helmed the pilot from a script written by Pacific Rim's Travis Beacham. He was also producing with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope. Max Brown would have headlined with Reece Ritchie, Condola Rashad, John Rhys-Davies, Caroline Ford, Antony Bunsee and Kelsey Chow co-starring.

The project was expected to premiere in early 2015. Would you have watched?
