When Universal Pictures set a June 20, 2014 release date for The Purge 2 last month, we figured it wouldn't be too long before cast members were announced. Today, we have word that Frank Grillo has signed on to star.

No character details were given, and it isn't known how this sequel will follow The Purge, which has earned over $90 million worldwide from just a $3 million production budget. The original story is set in a not-so-distant future where crime has been nearly eradicated, except for one night out of the year, known as The Purge. During that 12-hour period, all crime is legal, including murder. The Purge centers on a family (Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder and Adelaide Kane) who tries to survive the night when their high-tech security system is breached.

The Purge filmmaker James DeMonaco is writing and directing the sequel, with Jason Blum, Sebastian LeMercier, Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form producing. It isn't known when shooting may begin.

Frank Grillo most recently starred in Homefront, and he will next be seen as Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
