Frank Miller is hard at work trying to bring Will Eisner's The Spirit to life properly. On the official Lionsgate site for Will Eisner's The Spirit, Miller relates in his production blog how he and the crew are bending this way and that to remain faithful to Will Eisner's work:

We're giving our all to translate the drama and joy of Will's creation to the screen. With so many people working hard every day on this project, I realize much more is happening than I ever expected or dreamed of. Building a monument to the master's work would be too simple and we all understood that from the beginning. Besides, if any one tried, I'll bet Will would rise from the grave to rip the dusty old thing down himself.

The blog is sparse on details, but rich on poetic language. Miller is clearly pushing himself to create a film that honors Eisner's creation, but is still a Frank Miller creation.

Will Eisner's The Spirit opens January 16th, 2009, and stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Sarah Paulson, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons, Louis Lombardi, Jamie King and Paz Vega.
