The Friday the 13th remake from 2009 is getting an all-new exclusive steelbook Blu-ray release from Best Buy. Priced at just $14.99, the Blu-ray will be the first collector's edition Steelbook of the movie. The single-disc set will contain a the "Killer Cut" version of the reboot on Blu-ray, featuring additional footage not seen in the theatrical cut. It's noted that a digital copy code will also be included, though it's not specified which bonuses will be in the special features of this release. The steelbook will officially go on sale on Aug. 27 of this year, but fans can pre-order their copy now on the Best Buy website.

Released in 2009, the Friday the 13th remake was directed by Marcus Nispel using a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. It reimagines the events of the first three Friday the 13th movies, briefly touching on Jason's mother and his origin story as the stalker of Camp Crystal Lake. When a group of partying teenagers wind up in Jason's foods for what's intended to be a fun getaway, they are taken out one by one by the mute murderer in the hockey mask. Swamp Thing star Derek Mears plays Jason Voorhees in the remake, with cast also including Jared Paledecki (Supernatural), Danielle Panabacker (The Flash), and Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist).

While some diehard fans of the classic movies will always prefer the 1980 original, the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th has developed its own cult following in the past ten years. Mears' performance as Jason Voorhees has often been cited as one of the movie's strongest aspects. Fans have also commended its eerie atmosphere, interesting characters, and brutal kills. Each installment of the Friday the 13th franchise certainly has its fans and critics, but there's definitely a place for the 2009 movie, as many fans consider to be among the best of the series.

It's worth noting that this is the only Jason movie fans have gotten in the past decade, meaning we have now officially gone for the longest stretch of time for a new installment ever since the 1980 original. With the legal battle over the franchise rights set to continue thanks to an appeal, there remains no telling when we might ever see Camp Crystal Lake back on the big screen. For now, fans are doing their part by funding and creating various fan films to help keep the spirit of Jason alive in the meantime. Given the success of Halloween last year, the potential for a new Friday the 13th is huge, but we aren't going to see a second of new footage until the legal matters are completely resolved.

The new Friday the 13th steelbook will make an awesome addition to any fan's Blu-ray collection, especially for those who don't yet own the movie. Some fan opinions on the movie might be split, but there are some who consider the remake to be among the best installments of the franchise. Either way, that cover art is pretty awesome and will look amazing on your shelf. The steelbook has a release date listed for Aug. 27, but you can pre-order it now and find out more info at Best Buy.
