The first reactions to Frozen 2 have arrived. Disney recently held a premiere for the highly-anticipated animated sequel, which is poised to be one of the biggest hits of the latter half of 2019. But in terms of quality, will the follow-up be able to match its predecessor? Based on the early word, the indication is that this is a mostly worthy sequel.

Anna (Kristen Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) all return for Frozen 2. According to those that shared reactions on social media, having the Frozen gang back together is a welcome journey, but a darker and more complex journey. Drew Taylor of Moviefone had this to say on Twitter.

Loved #Frozen2. It's a darker, more complex and more emotionally mature story, continuing everything you love about the first movie and upping the ante while maintaining the intimacy of the original. Gorgeous animation, wonderful new characters and (FINALLY) a Kristoff song!"

Sure there are new Frozen characters, but music will be key for the sequel. The Frozen soundtrack sold millions of copies and topped the Billboard charts, with Let It Go becoming a truly monstrous hit. Crafting that kind of magic again is truly a tall order, but Kristoff does finally get a chance to shine in that department. Into The Unknown has specifically been praised as quite catchy. Atom Tickets' Alisha Grauso had this to say in her Twitter reactions.

"#Frozen2 is breathtakingly beautiful and leans in on empowerment for its characters. I cried at least 3 times. From the story to the last thread on Elsa's dress, the care and love put into it shows. And, good news, every one of Team Elsa gets at least one solo this time around."

For Disney, this looks to cap off an incredible year. The studio has already shattered the box office record for a studio in a single year, and Frozen 2 could help push them over the $10 billion mark for 2019 worldwide. But that could depend on how the moviegoing masses respond. While the majority of the reactions were highly positive, it wasn't all praise. Mashable's Angie J. Han had hinted that the sequel feels obligatory, but still admits there is a lot to love.

"#Frozen2 seems to exist primarily bc box office for Frozen 1 demanded a sequel, but there's still plenty to love here: eye-popping fantasy sequences, nice moments for your faves, LOTS of new songs incl the earworm-y 'Into the Unknown,' and an unbearably cute new critter"

Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee returned to helm the sequel. New cast members include Sterling K. Brown and Evan Rachel Wood. The sequel is looking at an opening weekend take of $100 million or more, which should set it up for a record-breaking run at the box office}. Frozen 2 is set to hit theaters on November 22 from Walt Disney Pictures. Be sure to check out some collected Twitter reactions below.
