Animated cartoon movies are known throughout the world for being good for all ages. However, in the West, there seems to be a stigma of them being only for kids. Many big production companies are now working to break that by making family-friendly movies that are great for all ages, but there are also plenty of animated movies that aren't for children at all, so let's look at some of them.

9 The Triplets of Belleville (2003)The Triplets of Belleville 2003 Animated Movie

A severely underrated animated movie, The Triplets of Belleville is a movie with stunning animation, and hilarious tidbits at the right time. Part of the reason could be the fact that it is a French movie, it is full of imaginative scenes, but may be a little too droll and dark for kids despite the rather low age rating.

Though many people don't know about it, it is credited for being one of the movies that helped turn around the opinions of animated movies when the trend was dying.

Many people know the South Park show, but there is also a movie. Released in 1999, this cartoon movie is just as crude and jaw-achingly hilarious as the show.

Like many of the episodes of the TV show, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut does a brilliant mix of comedy and a satirical look into reality, such as how we sometimes blame others for the mischief of children.

6 Ice Age (2002)Ice Age 2002 Animated Movie

Those that grew up with this movie still remember it clearly, including the poor squirrel, Scrat, who finally managed to get his acorn.

5 Sausage Party (2016)

For a while, Sausage Party was all anyone could talk about. It raised a lot of concerns due to its family-friendly-looking cover and cartoon appearance while actually being very crude and adult-oriented.

While many other cartoons have been aimed at adults instead of children, this one really pushed the limits on the fact that cartoons could be made entirely for adults, despite the animation style most commonly being associated with children.

The movie manages to have an equal mix of offensive and hilarious scenes, and is perfect for adults that like more raunchy movies.

Paramount really hit the nail on the head with the animated movie Kung Fu Panda. They decided to take two classically Chinese things, kung fu and pandas, and mix them to create an animated movie to grab the attention of children throughout the United States, and the world.

Though the movie's main target audience was children, many of those that stopped to watch it found that the acting and story were a good mix of entertaining and amusing, likely thanks to Jack Black and his brilliant role as the main character.

The Simpsons Movie is a side story from The Simpsons television show. It contains the same characters, but it focused on pollution and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) going head-to-head with Homer Simpson.

While other movies have been attempted, there was never enough of a story to create a full-length movie, and they became episodes of the TV show instead. However, The Simpsons Movie, when it finally came out, excelled, becoming the eighth highest-grossing film of the year.

Like the show, this story is full of humor, and highly relatable characters that make the story amusing for anyone that watches.
