We may not have seen the last of Futurama after all, as series star Maurice LaMarche says the cast and crew are still holding out hope for another revival. Starting in the original season, LaMarche consistently lent his voice to various characters on the animated series including Kif Kroker, Dr. Perceptron, Hedonismbot, Walt, and Morbo. He even won the Emmy for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for voicing Lrrr and Orson Welles in the season 6 episode "Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences."

Speaking with Syfy Wire about Hulu's Animaniacs revival, LaMarche reignited the hope from fans to see the show return by revealing that there are still ongoing talks to once again revive the show. When asked about the possibility of Futurama returning with new episodes, LaMarche had this to say.

"Sure, we all talk about it. If Fox was to come up with the right offer, but I know Matt would love to do it again. David Cohen, I think, might be into it. I think semi-retirement is finally wearing on him [laughs]. He had to get back to writing on The Simpsons just to keep busy."

LaMarche also says that the decision is ultimately up to the rights-holders, but if Futurama is going to return, it's probably better to do so sooner rather than later.

"I have to leave it up to the Powers That Be, but I know everybody's into it, including the cast. It would be great to do it before Billy West [voice of Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, and Professor Farnsworth] turns 80. So hopefully someday there'll be a Futurama reboot, but we're well-practiced at the reboot thing. We got rebooted twice, so there might be less of a huzzah about it, but it'd be nice to do that again."

Created by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Futurama also features the voice talents of Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Phil LaMarr, Lauren Tom, David Herman, and Frank Welker. From 1999 to 2003, the series aired its first four seasons on Fox before its first cancelation. It was then revived in 2008 by Comedy Central with a series of Futurama movies that double for a fifth season. Based on the positive response of the movies, the network officially revived the show for an additional two seasons which aired between 2010 and 2013.

The characters of Futurama were seen one last time for a crossover episode on The Simpsons. The episode, called "Simpsorama," aired in late 2014. That same year, Sagal told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she was "in denial that it's over," hoping that somehow the animated series would be able to continue someday. The producers also stated that they had "many more stories to tell" and were exploring other options for a way to move on, but as the years passed by, it really started to seem that Futurama was over forever.

While nothing is officially in the works, it's a good sign that LaMarche and the rest of the Futurama veterans are still talking about a potential revival. For the sake of the fans, let's hope the potential return actually comes to fruition. For now, you can catch LaMarche on Hulu's Animaniacs revival series. This news comes to us from Syfy Wire.
