In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, writer Jonathan Lethem's novel "Gun, With Occasional Music" has been been optioned by Gabe and Alan Polsky (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans).

The book was published by Harcourt Brace in 1994.

It follows a private eye through Oakland and San Francisco "as he delves into the murder of a prominent urologist."

Director Alan J. Pakula had originally optioned the film rights in the 1990s. Early in the 2000's, the book was being adapted by writer-director Hampton Fancher (The Minus Man) for Regency Enterprises.
