According to Production Weekly, Italian helmer Gabriele Muccino has come aboard to direct Wll Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness, based on the true-life rags-to-riches tale of investment banker Christopher Gardner.

Gardner now heads his own Chicago brokerage firm, but 20 years ago he was a single, homeless dad who often had to bathe his infant son in the public bathroom of an Oakland train station. The trip from the restroom to the boardroom took 10 years.

Steve Conrad, who wrote The Weather Man, penned the film's script. The film begins shooting in the San Francisco area in August.
