It is nine years since Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman in the DCU, and the actress celebrated with a sentimental post on Twitter. As one of DC’s prise assets, the role of Wonder Woman in the modern DC franchise was one of the most coveted additions to the casting of Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Gadot has been appreciative of the chance she was given ever since. In her post, she put all of her success down to her fans, and teased a promise of more to come from Diana Prince soon. She wrote:

“A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.”

Discounting the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Gadot last appeared as Diana Prince in 2021’s Wonder Woman 1984. Due to the Covid pandemic, the film was released direct to HBO Max and while it proved a popular addition to the platform having arrived at Christmas, the reviews of the film were not as positive as for her first outing. However, that didn’t stop work on Wonder Woman 3 going ahead, but so far there has been little word on exactly what that movie will entail, and when it will even go into production.

Wonder Woman 3’s plans began before the massive upheaval at Warner Bros. Discovery, and the recent appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran as joint-CEOs of the newly formed DC Studios. Whether these changes will have any lasting impact on Gal Gadot’s next appearance in the DCU is unclear, but back in October Patty Jenkins revealed that she had completed the script for Wonder Woman 3.

Having seen Wonder Woman 1984 receive very mixed reviews, there is a lot of pressure on the threequel to steady the ship. While there is nothing currently known about the movie’s plot, it is expected that the film will shift action to the current day after both of Wonder Woman’s solo movies to date have been set in the past. The ending of Wonder Woman 1984, certainly indicated that the franchise is ready to meet up with the rest of the DCU.

This time around, the movie will also see original Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter in a prominent role after making her first appearance in the post credits scene of Wonder Woman 1984. While her appearance in that movie seemed to be just a really fun cameo appearance, it has since been confirmed by Carter that she will be back in the new movie in a more prominent role.

Although there is seemingly no set start date for Wonder Woman 3’s shooting, Jenkins has hinted that she already is thinking about a fourth movie, so Gadot’s gratitude seems very likely to continue for some years to come. More will most likely be revealed when Gunn and Safran share their future plans for the DCU in the near future.
