Gal Gadot has provided a brief update on the development of the upcoming DC sequel, Wonder Woman 3, assuring fans of the Amazonian superhero that things are progressing nicely. While speaking with InStyle, the actress, who will reprise the role of Diana Prince AKA Wonder Woman in the threequel, was not able to offer too much in the way of detail, Gal Gadot did reveal that the script is currently being worked on, with plans in place to begin filming sometime in 2023.

“We're developing the script right now. We'll probably start in a year and a half or so.”

The sequel to Wonder Woman 1984 was officially greenlit at the end of last year, with both lead star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins both set to return. Director Patty Jenkins, who so far has helmed both movies in the Wonder Woman franchise, confirmed the news during the most recent DC FanDome event saying, "We're super excited about Wonder Woman 3. Gal (Gadot), who is so bummed about not being here, who's the busiest person in the world, with now three little kids and shooting.” As well as revealing that Lynda Carter will also return for the third movie, Jenkins concluded by saying that, "We are all three very excited about some things coming up with Wonder Woman 3.”

Gal Gadot made her big-screen debut as Wonder Woman back in 2017, with her first outing throwing her into the midst of World War I, during which she becomes involved in the conflict while hunting down Ares, a long-time enemy of the Amazons and the one she believes to be the cause of the Great War. A sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, followed in 2020 and saw Gadot’s superpowered warrior living during the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. The story finds Diana coming into conflict with not one, but two formidable foes in the form of Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah, and the mysterious media mogul, Maxwell Lord.

While the first Wonder Woman was met with much acclaim and remains one of the DC cinematic universe’s best outings, critics and audiences were a lot less enamored by Wonder Woman 1984. Thanks to some highly questionable story beats and actions from certain characters, the 1980s-set follow-up was met with mixed reviews, with many critics taking issue with Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and Dave Callaham’s script.

Plot details for Wonder Woman 3 are currently being kept under wraps, but Gal Gadot has previously expressed her desire to leave the past behind and follow Diana Prince into the modern world. "I wouldn't go, like, to the '60s or to the '40s with Wonder Woman," Gadot explained. "I feel like the past has been handled well, and now it's time to move on."

Gal Gadot can next be seen as part of the all-star ensemble cast of Death on the Nile. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the Agatha Christie sequel is set to be theatrically released on February 11, 2022, by 20th Century Studios.
