Nearly six months after producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed that Channing Tatum will play Gambit in a new X-Men spin-off movie, the project is officially moving forward with Channing Tatum officially signed to star and Joshua Zetumer (RoboCop) writing the screenplay.
The script will be based on a treatment written by Marvel comics writer Chris Claremont, who created the character alongside Jim Lee in 1990, with story details being kept under wraps. The mutant character, also known as Remy LeBeau, has the ability to charge matter with an explosive kinetic energy, causing objects to explode on impact. Gambit was previously seen on the big screen in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch.
Channing Tatum is also attached to produce Gambit with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, who wrote the script for and is producing Magic Mike XXL, which is currently in production. Lauren Shuler Donner is also producing alongside Simon Kinberg.
