Game of Thrones was one of those series that revolutionized the way viewers perceived the television landscape, especially fans across the globe. Truly, the show was the perfect combination of top-notch casting, action, mystery, and suspense. At the same time, when it comes to movies, the MCU has been ruling space since time immemorial. Unfortunately, over the years, the production giant has lost its shine. However, the new entry in the cinematic universe, Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has finally managed to live up to the expectation of the fans and, reportedly, is doing well at the box office.
Interestingly, a lot can happen when uber-talented actors of Game of Thrones cross paths with the MCU. And obviously, fans of cinema and television know this has happened several times in the past decade. Here is the list of actors who have starred in both Marvel movies and the famous Game of Thrones series.
Richard Madden
Richard Madden is no new name to the Hollywood industry and to cinema fans. Madden, recognized as Robb Stark in Game of Thrones finally pivoted to Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 through his antagonist role in the film Eternals. He played the role of Ikaris, a character destined to serve Celestials in defending humanity.
Though there is a second installment of Eternals in the making, unfortunately, Richard’s journey with the MCU was limited to only the first installment as, at the end, Ikaris flies to his death. While nothing can solidly be predicted about the future, for Madden, this marks the end of the journey with the MCU.
Emilia Clarke
Emilia Clarke aka Khaleesi from Game of Thrones, through her acting chops and charms, has no doubt left an indelible mark in cinema. And, truly, this will come as no surprise that her talent has earned her a role in the biggest franchise of modern cinema. Clarke will be seen in Secret Invasion, which is scheduled to hit Disney+ on June 21.
While details of her character are kept under wraps, it is known she will play the grown-up version of the character named G’iah. If fans could recall, G’iah was introduced in 2019’s Captain Marvel as Talos' daughter. While nothing was explored about her in Captain Marvel, it is widely speculated that Secret Invasion is the MCU series that will reveal what she's been up to since the hit film.
Natalie Dormer
Natalie Dormer played the fabled character of Margaery Tyrell in the hit series Game of Thrones. But before establishing herself as a seasoned actor, she performed a supporting role in MCU’s Captain America: The First Avenger. She appeared as Private Lorraine, a character significant in helping Steve locate bunkers in the war. In fact, she even played a fleeting love interest to Steve. However, fans know this never materialized into anything more than a kiss and a misunderstanding. Now that she's a bigger star, only time will tell if she'll return to the MCU in a larger, more prominent capacity.
Peter Dinklage
No hardcore Game of Thrones fan can ever forget Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion Lannister, a cunning dwarf full of surprises. Not just that, Dinklage has time and again proven his acting skills, especially when he has cemented his position as a respected actor in the industry. Unsurprisingly, the MCU franchise became his next pit stop.
Dinklage, if cans can recall, played the character of Eitri, the dwarf who made Thor’s Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War. Further, he even had the opportunity to reprise his role in Thor: Love and Thunder alongside Christian Bale and Chris Hemsworth. Sadly, his part was cut in the film, and since then, he had made no further appearance in the MCU. Thankfully, Thor 5 is in the works, so, hopefully, we might see more of Dinklage in the MCU.
Sophie Turner
Sophie Turner played the bold yet soft character of Sansa Stark in the Game of Thrones. But quite contrary to Sansa, Turner landed the role of powerful Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise. Led by James McAvoy as Professor X, the X-Men reboot had five parts, with X-Men: Dark Phoenix serving the concluding iteration.
Unfortunately, Dark Phoenix was a major box office failure, along with a poor audience and critic reception that led to the closure of the franchise. Naturally, by extension, Turner had to say goodbye to the character of Jean Grey and Marvel forever.
Kit Harington
Kit Harington is undoubtedly an excellent addition to the MCU franchise. But before joining the superhero league as Black Knight in Eternals, Harington stole the audience’s heart as the lead protagonist Jon Snow in Game of Thrones series. However, so far, Eternals has not fully harnessed Harrington's acting abilities, and he was introduced in a supporting role as a love interest of Gemma Chen’s Sersei.
Well, fans can be assured there is much in store for not just Harington, but also fans in Marvel. Per Screen Rant, The Black Knight will return in the MCU's Blade reboot, which undoubtedly is much-anticipated news for fans.
Maisie Williams
Maisie Williams played the character of Arya Stark in the Game of Thrones series for eight seasons until 2019. Following this, the year after, she received the opportunity to join Marvel in a leading role. Williams joined Marvel as Wolfsbane in the X-Men spin-off The New Mutant. Per Vulture, sadly, the first entry failed to create the usual superhero magic and did not even cover the investment cost. Naturally, with such a disastrous underperformance, it is highly unlikely fans will see Maisie returning in Marvel mo
