The Game of Thrones universe will further expand with a new sequel series centering on Kit Harington's Jon Snow, and many fans aren't quite sure how to react. There has been some chatter from fans feeling apprehensive about continuing the story after the way the series controversially ended amid a flurry of criticism and negative reviews. Meanwhile, others feel that the best option for a sequel series would have been to go with Maisie Williams' Arya Stark."Give us the Arya Stark sequel you cowards!" writes one fan on Twitter."Don't get me wrong, I like Jon Snow, but why him? Especially when Arya Stark is right there," says someone else. Was Maisie Williams busy?" ponders another Game of Thrones viewer. "Why would you go back to 'Man who literally does nothing for eight seasons' instead of 'Girl who decides to go exploring the unknown' like EVERY OBVIOUSLY 'Arya Stark and the Dawn Treaders' is the sequel series. What are we doing.'"

Maisie Williams Has Moved On From Arya Stark

Why Game of Thrones Star Maisie Williams Missed the Golden Globes
HBO

We don't know that a potential Arya Stark series hasn't been discussed behind the scenes at HBO. Perhaps the reason it hasn't happened is that Maisie Williams has been pursuing other endeavors since leaving the series and is in no rush to jump straight back into the Game of Thrones universe. She previously told Variety that she's happy with the creative freedom that new kinds of characters have given her as an actress.

"I’ve been keen to do roles where I have some kind of physical transformation, and that explore parts of womanhood that I’ve never been able to through playing Arya," she said. "I have a more rational understanding of people and the world around me; Arya was very hot or cold, no in-between. That’s just not the way the world works! It’s quite nice now to read projects and to understand these women in a new way. Because there’s so much more that I have to give, and I could never have done with Arya."

Williams also said she was excited for the upcoming prequel House of the Dragon, adding, "I’m really looking forward to it, actually... I’m kind of looking forward to watching Game of Thrones — even though it’s not Game of Thrones — and experiencing it as a person that’s not on it. ‘Cause all I’ve done is meet people who have done just that, and I never really was able to relate to it."
