Yesterday, we reported that HBO has delayed their special IMAX screenings for the hit series Game of Thrones by one week, from January 23 to January 29, due to "high levels of consumer demand." With just one day left until tickets go on sale, IMAX has released two limited edition posters that will be given away to the fans who attend these screenings. This will be the first-ever presentation of a television program in IMAX theatres, featuring two episodes from Season 4 of Game of Thrones followed by the worldwide debut of the series' Season 5 sneak-peek preview created exclusively for IMAX. Be warned, though, if you aren't caught up with Season 4, there will be some spoilers revealed in the posters, so check the out at your own risk.
The first 300 IMAX ticket holders for the Thursday night opening show time (January 29 at 10pm) at participating IMAX theatres will receive a commemorative Game of Thrones poster from well-known illustrator Robert Ball (BeautifulDeath.com), who designed interpretive images of the most iconic deaths in each episode. Fans who attend AMC IMAX Theaters for these screenings will receive the Watchers on the Wall poster, while fans at every other theater will get The Children poster. Tickets will officially go on sale on IMAX.com/GameOfThrones starting Friday, January 16.
The move from January 23, prompted by extraordinary consumer response that drove online mentions for IMAX to record heights, will allow for an expanded domestic roll-out from the originally planned 150 IMAX theatres. The episodes will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and will be released for an exclusive one-week engagement.
