Game of Thrones Season 6 will finally debut on April 24. That's still more than two months away. And in that time, it appears that HBO plans to really mess with fans. The first poster released for these new episodes prominently featured the return of Jon Snow, who's fate has been debated ever since the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale. Now, another long gone character is back. But why?
Obtained exclusively by EW, the latest Game of Thrones poster features Robb Stark's face. Also known as the King of the North, Catelyn and Ned Stark's met his untimely demise all the way back in Game of Thrones Season 3. He fell victim to the infamous Red Wedding massacre. So why is he being featured in the promotional campaign waged by HBO leading up to the big premiere?
At this point, no one is sure except the show creators themselves, and they aren't talking. Game of Thrones has reached an interesting point in its ongoing journey. The TV show has finally caught up with the books, and no one is sure where this saga is heading next. Author and creator of the Ice and Fire books George R.R. Martin, upon which the fantasy series is based, has promised that the 6th novel will not arrive before new episodes debut this spring. So no spoilers have been forthcoming.
Earlier this month, both a new poster and teaser trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6 showed several dead characters, along with a few living ones, inside the House of Black and White's Hall of Faces. Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Robb Stark (Richard Madden), Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley), Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) all appear in the footage. Last season, Maisie Williams' Arya Stark journeyed across the sea to the House of Black and White, where she trained to be a "Faceless Man" under the tutelage of Jacquen H'gar (Tom Wlaschiha). Arya's training didn't go so well, though, and at the end of the season, Jacquen H'gar blinded the young girl. We don't yet know anything about how her story will unfold this season. But we'll have to wait until April 24 to learn more. Though we're sure more character posters may appear between now and then. Will they provide us with any further clues? Doubtful.
Some of the new characters debuting this season include Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven, Ian McShane in an unspecified role and Pilou Asbæk, who has been rumored to be playing Euron Greyjoy, the uncle of Alfie Allen's Theon Greyjoy. Richard E. Grant and Essie Davis are portraying members of a theater troupe who are putting on a play about famous figures in Westeros, with James Faulkner, Samantha Spiro and Rebecca Benson portraying the father, mother and sister of Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). Most recently, we reported that Spartacus: Vengeance star Joseph Naufahu has come aboard, rumored to be playing a Dothraki warrior. With so many new faces coming to the show, why are we seeing the return of Robb Stark? That is a question for another day. For now, take a look at the latest Game of Thrones Season 6.
