Garrett Hedlund has been offered the lead role of Captain Hook in director Joe Wright's Pan, the new Warner Bros. adaptation of J.M. Barrie's classic Peter Pan.

The actor beat out others such as Jack Huston (American Hustle) and Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) for the coveted role. We reported in December that Hugh Jackman entered negotiations to play Blackbeard, after Javier Bardem passed on the iconic character.

The script, written by Jason Fuchs, follows the young orphan Peter Pan, who is taken to Neverland for the first time, as he leads the locals in a rebellion against the pirates. Captain Hook starts out as an ally to Peter Pan before turning to his villainous ways.

Greg Berlanti is producing, although no shooting schedule has been given. Garrett Hedlund most recently starred in On the Road and Inside Llewyn Davis. He will next be seen in director Angelina Jolie's Unbroken.
