George Clooney is close to a deal to star opposite Robert De Niro in Marc Forster's "36," a remake of the French cop saga "36 Quai des Orfevres" , according to Production Weekly.

Dean Georgaris (The Manchurian Candidate), is translating the script, set to film in New York later this year.

The French film, starring Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil as detectives heading plain-clothes divisions at Paris police headquarters, centers on the quest to solve a series of armored car robberies with a promotion going to whomever catches the perpetrators.
