Gerard Butler is in talks to star in Summit Entertainment's fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt, alongside Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Flash Gordon), the story is based on the mythological God of the Desert, Storms and Foreigners, Set (Gerard Butler), who kills his own brother Osiris. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays Osiris' son Horus, the God of the Sky, who teams up with a common thief and the Goddess of Love, Hathor, to get revenge for his father's murder.

Alex Proyas has been attached to direct since May 2012, and he is also producing alongside Basil Iwanyk. No production schedule was given.

Gerard Butler most recently starred in the action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen. He is also starring in the upcoming projects The Raven and Dynamo, along with returning to voice Stoick the Vast in the animated sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2.
