Universal has moved the release of Leatherheads into next year to give injured director-star George Clooney time to incorporate additional footage and honor previous commitments, according to Variety.

The period football film was scheduled for a December 7th release, but will now premiere on April 4.

Clooney is also producer of the romantic drama, which co-stars Renee Zellweger.

Clooney broke his rib on Sept. 21 in a New Jersey motorcycle accident in which his girlfriend was also injured.

Leatherheads is the third film directed by Clooney after Good Night, And Good Luck. and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
