Last month, Paramount Pictures released the first Ghost in the Shell trailer, featuring Scarlett Johansson as The Major. As we get closer to the March 31, 2017 release, the studio has debuted an international trailer. It doesn't feature any new footage that wasn't already revealed in previous sneak peek videos, but it includes Japanese subtitles and a voice over narration. While you'll have to be fluent in Japanese to understand the subtitles and comprehend the narration, you won't need to learn any new languages to enjoy the exciting visuals on display.

The first trailer debuted with a global launch party in Tokyo featuring Scarlett Johansson, "Beat" Takeshi Kitano and director Rupert Sanders who were joined by fans and influencers from across the globe. Opening with Taiko drummers, including the legendary anime film composer Kenji Kawai, the event began with a screening of never-before-seen footage from the film. Attendees were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the costumes and props from the film, as well as an opportunity to capture their experience in a film-centric experiential photo booth - "Becoming the Major." The exciting show concluded with Johansson, Kitano, and Sanders debuting the film's global trailer, triggering its worldwide launch. This international trailer comes from Paramount Pictures Japan.

This anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell is said to stick very close to the manga that it is based on, outside of the fact that the producers have been accused of whitewashing . This also won't be the first time that Scarlett Johansson has had the chance to lead a major action franchise outside of playing Black Widow in The Avengers. In 2014, her movie sci-fi/action thriller Lucy grossed an impressive $463 million worldwide. Given the "whitewashing" controversy swirling around this movie, it remains to be seen whether or not that will impact its box office performance.

The Ghost In The Shell movie is based on the very popular manga of the same name. The story follows Kusanagi (Scarlett Johansson), a cyborg that is a part of an elite cybercrime-fighting task force known as Section 9. The series was originally published in 1989 and was written by Masamune Shirow. It is generally considered to be one of the best manga series ever published. That being the case, other adaptations of Ghost in the Shell have come before, with an animated series, spin-off books and even a video game. This new live-action take looks to become the definitive version for modern audiences. Many fans have taken the adaptation to task for casting Scarlett Johansson in a role portrayed as an Asian female in the original manga, the latest film of many to be called out for "whitewashing."

Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders with a script written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss. In addition to Scarlett Johansson, the cast includes Rila Fukushima, Michael Pitt, Peter Ferdinando and Juliette Binoche. Ghost In The Shell is currently set for release on March 31 2017, where it will square off against The Boss Baby, Step Sisters and The Zookeeper's Wife.
