Video game movie adaptations have a well known history for garnering mostly poor critical and audience receptions. Chad Stahelski, director of the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima film, talked about his hopes for delivering a quality project. He explained his desire for the title to be the best it can be in an interview with IGN.

While appearing at a red carpet event for The Matrix: Resurrections, Stahelski talked about Ghost of Tsushima with IGN, where he said, "We just want to do it right. You know how video game adaptations can go. So we're taking our time and doing it right. We're working very closely with the game developers to make sure we stick to what's great about it."

A script for the upcoming project is still being written. Stahelski explained that fans of the game would be very pleased with what is being planned for the movie. The director has plenty of knowledge about the video game, as he played it "many times." His love for the game led to him wanting to work on the motion picture.

With regard to the cast, Stahelski remains pretty silent. He was asked if Daisuke Tsuje, the voice actor for the English language version the game's hero Jin Sakai, would play the character in the movie. Stahelski replied: "We'll see. We haven't gotten that far yet."

For those who don't know, Stahelski is the director for all the films in the John Wick franchise. Much of his career in the entertainment industry has been performing and coordinating stunts. He served as the stunt double for Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix installment. Stahelski would work with series as the stunt coordinator for The Matrix: Reloaded and The Matrix: Revolutions.Additionally, he was a stunt double for Brandon Lee in the 1994 dark superhero flick The Crow, as well as a fight choreographer for Zack Snyder's epic 300. Stahelski ha a large amount of experience in the action genre, which is positive news as Ghost of Tsushima features plent of action.

Right now, Stahelski is working on John Wick 4, which is currently in the post production phase. The project will come to theaters next year. A fifth film in the franchise has already been confirmed. Also, he is involved as the director of the remake of the classic fantasy film Highlander. That title is going to star Henry Cavill.

News of a Ghost of Tsushima film first arrived in March 2021. It came with the information that the developer Sucker Punch's Peter Kant would work as an executive producer. It will feature the story of samurai Jin Sakai, who hopes to free his homeland from Mongol invaders after they killed the vast majority of his clan. In his mission, he becomes the titular "ghost," a feared warrior. The video game was released in 2020 as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4. It received widespread critical acclaim and was considered one of the best games of last year. If the adaptation is as good as the game, audience members are in for something special. A release date has not yet been announced.
