Jason Reitman has shared the first family photo from Ghostbusters 2020. The new image from the highly anticipated sequel comes after the director teased fans with another look at the dilapidated Ecto-1 while announcing that production had officially started earlier this week. Reitman is clearly excited to finally get the project off of the ground and long-time fans are going to be watching closely to see what the director is doing with the beloved franchise and who will be coming back to reprise their roles from the first two installments.

Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace are the new family featured in the Ghostbusters 2020 first-look image. The family is pictured with Ivan and Jason Reitman as things start rolling. "The Family's All Here," tweeted Reitman. Grace is holding the clapboard, which shows the previously revealed Rust City working title. For now, the tentative title for the long-awaited sequel is Ghostbusters 2020.

Many are speculating from McKenna Grace's bespectacled look and hair style that we are looking at Egon Spengler's daughter. Many believe that Carrie Coon is the wife of Spengler, and that the two got married sometime after the events in Ghostbusters II. Egon has since passed away, leaving a barn full of his old Ghostbusters equipment behind. This means Finn Wolfhard will be playing Spengler's son. None of this is confirmed, and is just fan theory at the moment. But after seeing the new image, many fans believe this is, in fact, the direction this movie is taking place, with the other Ghostbusters retuning to help Spengler's kids carry on the business. That sounds like a decent way to preserve the history of the franchise.

It was also recently announced that Paul Rudd has officially joined the cast of Ghostbusters 2020. While his role, and most of the storyline, are being kept under wraps, Rudd is playing a teacher in a small town. "This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet," said Jason Reitman recently when asked about the movie. As for what those surprises will be, everybody is waiting for the official announcement of the original cast returning. Sigourney Weaver confirmed her return and revealed Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson are also returning. Annie Potts is also returning to the franchise.

Ghostbusters 2020 is currently shooting in Calgary, Canada. Carrie Coon plays a single mother to Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace's characters, while Celeste O'Connor and Logan Kim have signed on to join the production in unknown roles. Jason Reitman has teased the story started with a focus on Grace's character. He was recently talking about how he even came to the idea of making a Ghostbusters movie and it had to do with a vision he had. He had this to say about his vision.

"She was a 12-year-old girl. I didn't know who she was or why she popped into my head, but I saw her with a proton pack in her hand."

However, Jason Reitman has since shifted the Ghostbusters 2020 story to focus on the girl and her family. That's not a whole lot to go off of, but Reitman is keeping everything a secret for the time being and it's going to be interesting to see what he comes up with when all is said and done. For now, we can only hope from more set pictures to find their way online. You can check out the Ghostbusters 2020 first-look photo below, thanks to Jason Reitman's Twitter account.
