Yesterday, fans got a new look at Sony's highly-anticipated Ghostbusters reboot with a photo that featured all four main cast members together, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. While we wait for the first trailer to arrive, the studio has released four character posters featuring these ladies in action, courtesy of People, Time, Entertainment Weekly and InStyle. Director Paul Feig also shared details about each of these characters, who will be much different than the original Ghostbusters.

The filmmaker described Kristen Wiig's character, Erin Gilbert, as a "particle physicist, academic firebrand, spectral warrior." She is also said to enjoy battling these supernatural entities, although she doesn't have much of a social life. Kate McKinnon's Jillian Holtzman is a "nuclear engineer, munitions expert, proton wrangler," while Leslie Jones' Patty Tolan is a "ghost tracker, municipal historian and metaphysical commando." The filmmaker would only say that Melissa McCarthy's Abby Yates is a scientist, but he did add that all four make a great team.

"They are four incredibly talented women, each with a unique voice and style of comedy. The fact that they meshed so well and complemented each other so well made this team of paranormal warriors a very interesting and fully-rounded group. The funniest people who come from sketch, stand-up, or just comedy, in general, work well together because the good ones know they are only as good as those they are playing off, against, and with. The set was a fun, supportive and creatively fertile environment."

The supporting cast includes Chris Hemsworth as the Ghostbusters' secretary and Andy Garcia as the Mayor of New York City, alongside Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan and Neil Casey. Previously announced stars from the 1984 classic include Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson. Though, this group of originals will not be reprising their iconic roles. This new Ghostbusters takes place in an alternate universe where the first team of ghost chasers simply didn't exist.

Paul Feig directs from a script that he co-wrote with Katie Dippold, with original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman producing alongside Dan Aykroyd. Sony has set a July 15, 2016 release date for Ghostbusters, putting it up against Lionsgate's musical La La Land and EuropaCorp's action-thriller The Lake. Take a look at these Ghostbusters character posters, and stay tuned for the first trailer.
