Ghostbusters 3 director Jason Reitman has confirmed that the original cast has read his script. Reitman made the announcement at the Ghostbusters Fan Fest over the weekend and also revealed that production is expected to begin in five weeks. The news comes after Sigourney Weaver casually confirmed she was returning with the original cast for Ghostbusters 3, which may have been a mistake on her part since Reitman has not come out and made the official cast announcement at this time.

While speaking at Ghostbusters Fan Fest, Jason Reitman said, "Sigourney has read the screenplay... Dan has read it... Ernie's read the script... Bill Murray has read the script." While this isn't necessarily a confirmation of the surviving cast returning for Ghostbusters 3, it pretty much is after Sigourney Weaver's recent comments. "It's going to be crazy working with the guys again!" said Weaver, who wouldn't divulge any other information about the long-awaited sequel other than the fact she is reprising her Dana Barrett role.

Jason Reitman did not talk about Ghostbusters 3 a whole lot at Ghostbusters Fan Fest, but he did mention that he hopes to begin shooting within the next five weeks and he wants to "scare children" in the process. With a release date set for next summer, now is definitely the time to start working on the sequel, especially since it will more than likely rely on some pretty intense CGI to bring some ghosts to life on the big screen. Everybody talks about Bill Murray coming back, but what about Slimer? Like the original cast, he was featured in the 2016 female-led Ghostbusters reboot and fans are hoping for his return too. Then you have Rick Moranis, whom no one has mentioned at all yet. Though he was believed to be retired, the iconic comedy actor revealed that he hadn't actually retired and was just looking for the right script to bring him back. So, will this be it?

Jason Reitman is calling Ghostbusters 3 a "love letter" to the first movie and hopes fans of the franchise will agree. Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard are the main actors in the sequel and they are reportedly a family. Reitman has been keeping nearly everything about the sequel under wraps, but Dan Aykroyd has claimed that the script is great and says fans are going to love what the young director has come up with to push the franchise further. With production set to begin soon, we should see some behind-the-scenes images start to come in, which could give us a better idea of what's going on.

Ghostbusters 3 is all set to hit theaters on July 10th, 2020. Jason Reitman's father, Ivan, directed the first installment, which was released 35 years ago. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis collaborated to write the iconic movie, so Reitman has some big shoes to fill. "One of my favorite things about movies (in the 80's) is that they can be funny and scary at the same time," says Reitman, who hopes to retain the same spirit with his upcoming sequel.
